Job Description

Shift: Hourly, Evening, Weekend as needed

9 Hrs/week

 

Explains Cuisine On Call Room Service information to patients in room and instructs them on how to use on the telephonic room service process providing assistance as needed. Picks up meal carts in kitchen or on patient floor and makes meal deliveries to patient rooms. Documents all meal deliveries and notifies clinical staff of any discrepancies or issues. Delivers additional patient nourishments and assists with basic tray line duties as assigned. 

1. Picks up meal carts from the kitchen or on the patient floor in designated area and delivers individual meals and additional nourishments (drinks, snacks, etc.) to the appropriate patient. Verifies patient identity, meal delivery and pick-up times and documents on each patient’s Admissions, Discharge and Transfers (ADT) Report. Stores empty delivery carts in designated area or returns to kitchen. Notifies nursing staff when there is a medication alert order on a patient meal prior to delivery. 

2. Explains and instructs patients on using the telephonic room service process assisting them with ordering food as needed noting the “needs assistance” status of the patient. Refers to the ADT Report for nutrition plan care type and may answer patients basic diet questions relating to ordering meals or refers them to the Nurse or Dietitian. 

3. Provides non-English speaking patients with translated Cuisine On Call menus and ordering instructions assisting them with using the language line when necessary. Faxes completed order forms to Dieticians. 

4. Ensures patients have eaten by checking the missed meal report and reports any issues to the patients Nurse and Dietitian. 

5. Assist in the kitchen with silverware wrapping, tray lining, and other duties as assigned. 

6. Prepares and delivers courtesy carts to patient family members when needed. 

7. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures 

Job Requirements

1. High school diploma or the equivalent required. 

2. Prior customer service experience is preferred. 

3. Some knowledge of diets is preferred. 

4. The interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients and co-workers. 

5. The organizational skills to prioritize multiple responsibilities. 

6. The ability to speak and write in English. 

7. The ability to access and use the language line.
