Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform program set ups for vertical mill HAAS machining centers and HAAS lathes for Production. Set-Up includes setting origins and cutting tools, editing CNC programs, properly machining jaws and/ or fixtures; follow strict adherence to GD&T, performing first piece checks and quality audits, training operators how to run the parts after set up, documenting and maintaining quality, notify Engineering of programming changes, recording labor and cycle times in ERP system for costing, verifying initial run times and router steps, upholding safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, drawings, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Performs against the machining schedule based on provided work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, drawings, reference plans, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Execute work orders in order of priority and actively participate in meeting schedule requirements for Customer delivery.
  • Write and/or execute programs for mills and/or lathes by generating G code with use of GibbsCam or entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Ability to properly measure parts interpreting GD&T from part print is required.
  • As the job dictates, may be requested to learn additional software programs such as SolidWorks, CIMCO editor and/or GlobalShop as examples. On the job and/or formal training will be provided for ERP software, Globalshop.
  • May be requested to learn additional machines operational and programming basics, such as Bystronics Laser. On the job and/or formal training will be provided.
  • Set-up mills and lathes by installing jaws or collets, tools, attachments, and stops as needed; installing and indicating vices.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to quality standards and performing first piece checks.
  • Maintains quality and tolerance specifications by observing the machining process; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming G code as needed reporting changes back to the programmer(s) to adjust the GibbsCam files; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Able to properly communicate to team leaders and/or machine operators and turn over the part load process and operational instructions, measurement specification checks, fit and functional quality standards.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; notify maintenance department when repairs are needed.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Properly clock in and out of jobs accurately to record the time it takes to set up jobs properly. Compare results to estimates and advise engineering to make necessary changes where appropriate. Documents actions by completing production and quality logs as required by Plant Managers.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.
  • Able to work flexible hours due to business needs product or equipment delays or unexpected events.
  • Works closely and maintains open communication with Engineering Department.
  • Meets production goals in terms of quantity and quality.
  • Participate in required meetings and training, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Demonstrating work behaviors consistent with the company values and work within prescribed boundaries, including company policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of software programs such as Gibbs or CIMCO editor is a plus, but it is not a requirement.
  • GD &T certification is a plus, but knowledge without certification is valued.
