Job Description


The Shipping/Receiving (S/R) Supervisor supervises and coordinates work, employees, vendors and sub-contractors engaged in shipping and receiving customer parts, supplies, equipment, etc… to satisfy customer needs by ensuring timely receipt/delivery of same. Assists in unloading/loading of trucks, packaging parts, preparing paperwork and assisting other departments with work as assigned.  This person is also responsible for all S/R department EHS programs and insuring all environmental regulations are met.  Accurately and timely produce all work as assigned by management.  Position requires good work attendance, project management skills and prioritizing of work.  Promote the products and services offered by HHC, Inc. through daily quality production of all HHC, Inc. work.  Effectively and positively communicate with vendors/customers/employees.  Promote the long-term goals of HHC, Inc.  Promote good working relationships and teamwork with all employees.  Must be flexible and perform other duties not listed below to meet HHC Inc.’s changing needs.





  • Completes jobs as assigned by HHC, Inc. management.
  • Follows established paperwork procedures to establish, maintain, track and complete jobs.
  • Assures accuracy of work as directed and information listed on job cards or work orders.
  • Determine best possible S/R practices and uses good techniques and judgments in work assignments.
  • Assure timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Report issues of a reportable nature to management immediately.
  • Has knowledge and understands requirements for all aspects of the position.
  • Travel as required.
  • Responsible for prioritizing work with the Plant Manager. Keep track of work completed and work that needs to be done. Works with the Production Manager and Lead Men to coordinate work.
  • Directs and manages workers regarding jobs to perform, scheduling work, work rate, quality of work and overtime.
  • Insures workers are following all safety rules, company policies and proper procedures.
  • Performs training of new workers in all aspects of the S/R function and procedures and insures they are fully trained.
  • Gives input to the Plant Manager for writing performance appraisals and participates in the performance review of workers.
  • Works with the Production Manager to develop a daily plan for the shipment of various jobs.
  • Creates job cards/travelers, activates new customers, enters S/R info into computer system.
  • Schedules pick-ups with outside trucking companies.  Also obtains quotes to find low cost carriers and work with same to negotiate discounts.
  • Selects and oversees sub-contractors to perform various projects or services. Insures they are following proper safety procedures.
  • Requisitions and keeps an adequate supply of inventory to minimize downtime and manages same.
  • Responsible for ensuring jobs are packaged properly, all paperwork filled out correctly and all stickers are completed and attached properly.
  • Ensure crates/pallets are built, repaired and in good condition and ready when a job is ready to be shipped.  Ensure all are marked in HHC Blue.
  • Maintains and ensures proper customer service skills (politeness, willingness to help, positive attitude, etc…) in dealing with visitors, customers or vendors when they are on Company premises or we are on their premises.
  • Driving Company vehicles is required (DOT Class B CDL and Non DOT).
  • Ensures customer/vendor trucks are loaded/unloaded timely to include employee breaks and lunches (truck drivers should not have to wait).
  • Continually working to improve efficiencies and quality.
  • Keep track of mistakes, make appropriate personnel aware, give and seek input to reduce the amount of mistakes in the department.
  • Flexible to work alternate work schedules.
  • Responsible for housekeeping and organization in assigned areas and equipment.
  • Responsible for compliance to all applicable local, state and federal regulations (DOT, OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Responsible for investigating near misses and accidents and filling out appropriate reports and distributing them to appropriate personnel.
  • Responsible for insuring the cranes, straps, fork lifts, fire extinguishers, flammable cabinets, and the location of hazardous supplies are all within safety standards.
  • Demonstrate personal support of and follow all company policies, guidelines, safety activities and procedures.
  • Perform any other jobs as needed or requested.




Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent of 5 years experience in an industrial S/R hard environment.

LICENSE(S):  Valid Class B or greater Commercial Driving License (CDL).


EDUCATIONAL and/or EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Associates Degree preferred.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to communicate English/Spanish preferred, read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 


Physical Demands/Work Environment:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds several times per day.  Talk and hear (in person, via telephone and radio).  Sit, stand, walk for long periods at a time. Use hands to finger, handle or feel (e.g., operation of power tools, equipment and hand controls; various labor tasks, such as grasping, push/pull motion, use hand held radio, etc.).  Reach with hands and arms (e.g. operation of tools and equipment; various labor tasks).  Use of vision to see close, distance, color, peripherally, depth perception, and/or ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses, during day and night time hours, as well as in various environmental conditions (e.g., fog, snow, rain, etc.).  Climb, balance, stoop, kneel crouch, crawl.  Work at heights above six feet. Drive a vehicle/equipment for short or long periods of time. Physical repetitive motion (e.g., performing various labor tasks, using tools, operating equipment, driving, using hand held radio, etc.)  Comprehend, reason, problem solve, make sound decisions and exercise sound judgment.  Noise Level: Usually moderate to loud (work sites and equipment).  Taste and Smell (as safety precaution while at work site).  Exposure to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, flammable/combustible/explosive materials, biological hazards, extreme heat and cold, wet or humid conditions.
