Job Description

The Center for Enriched Living is hiring for Activity Instructors to work at a new summer camp located in Palatine, IL.

Hours: Monday through Friday hours available 8:45am to 3:15pm 

$14-15 per hour - Part-time, Temporary (summer session)

JOB TITLE: Summer Activity Instructor, Little City

ORGANIZATION: Center for Enriched Living

REPORTS TO: Program Supervisor


  • Under the direction of the Program Supervisor, the Summer Activity Instructor will lead group activities for teens and adults with developmental disabilities, in our Summer Camp.
  • Employed and trained by the Center for Enriched Living but camp will be located in Palatine, IL.
  • Monitor program performance as directed, and recommend modifications to supervisor.
  • Serve as appropriate role model for members.
  • Act in a professional manner; show respect to all members, staff and stakeholders.
  • Observe member rights, confidentiality and practice a person-centered philosophy.


The Summer Activity Instructor leads innovative social and recreational activities for teens and adults with developmental disabilities. Support members in having fun through meaningful experiences such as learning new skills and building friendships with peers.


  • Work with other staff to lead activities with assigned group.
  • Continually supervise and be actively involved with all members in assigned group.
  • Implement and monitor behavior programs, assist with toileting or other personal care needs and be familiar with members’ dietary and feeding restrictions/needs.
  • Complete administrative and program record keeping such as class attendance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of member information.
  • Represent The Center in a professional manner when in the community.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers and volunteers.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training as required.
  • Maintain regular and consistent work attendance.
  • Dress appropriately for job being performed.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

Job Requirements


  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred, but not required
  • Dedication to enhancing each member's physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development
  • Creativity, flexibility, understanding and patience
  • Sensitivity to children and adults of all backgrounds
  • Willingness to learn about and to work with children’s special needs and capabilities
